A brief
history of roles
Writing
After a couple of years writing about sports bras at Nike, what I lucky writer I was to end up at Instrument, a digital creative agency (Portland, NYC, LA) in 2012. From midlevel to lead to creative director, I had the privilege of working with remarkable talent across a diverse range of clients (Nike, Google, PagerDuty, Twitter, OneMedical, Grammarly and more). In addition to cranking out an unfathomable amount of headlines, scripts, posts, and voice & tone playbooks, I managed a team of writers and designers, ran cross-disciplinary projects, developed client relationships, and pitched (and regularly won) new work for the agency.
Leadership
From 2020-2023 I ran a team of 30 people in partnership with a small leadership group. We maintained a financial goal of 10+ million dollars a year. Our team had one long-term annuity account, and otherwise were one of the agency’s top new business acquisition teams. This entailed pitching steadily—up to four pitches a month—with an exceptional win rate.
As a manger, I had up to eight direct reports at a time including writers, designers, and ACDs. I provided long-term mentorship to many of our writers agency-wide, and oversaw hiring, compensation, career progression, and 1:1 support for each of my direct reports. Additionally, I hired and managed freelance talent for multiple teams at the agency.
